Macdonel, Grisell
HY

Music performance is the sonic and dynamic dimension of musical works which manifests in time and space and is at the heart of our understanding of art music. The object of study of this research is temporality and subjectivity in musical performance. This research claims that the performer's subjectivity and temporality are intrinsic and important elements in the creation of sonic musical works; and that there is interaction between subjectivity and temporality in each musical performance. This thesis analyses the interaction between the performer's subjectivity and temporality, and attempts to define the further implications of it in art music.
