Anttonen, Salli (UEF): Authenticity, credibility and music censorship
My main research interests in my doctoral thesis are the concepts of authenticity and credibility, especially in the sphere of popular music.
My main research question for my doctoral thesis is: How and by whom is credibility or authenticity constructed, and what kind of characteristics do these concepts acquire in this process?
My methodological approach is a qualitative one, in which the method is content analysis, especially discourse analysis. I thus concentrate my research upon language: how is credibility constructed in ways of language and communication?
One important subtheme is censorship in relation to questions of credibility. Does being subject to censorship increase the credibility of an artist or a band in their own musical genre?
